Manchester Fun Run May 2008 - sponsorship

Commentary and pictures of Sue doing the Manchester Fun Run in memory of Genevieve.

I wore a bright orange vest, black tutu and put black, white and orange ribbons in my hair, I was meant to be a tiger. I did consider tying my legs together and bouncing all the way round but thought better of it!

It was a hard race for me this year, I hadn't trained as much as I would have liked, I was very tired and got stitch at 2k. However, thinking about Gen and knowing Holly was waiting at the finish line helped me fight back the tears and spurred me on. I finished the whole 10k in 1 hour 6 mins, attempting a sprint finish!

'It's a Knockout' report and photos

We had a presence at the It's a Knockout Youth Festival at Stanley Park today. Sheila, Rosie and Darren staffed a stall which helped to raise almost £100.
More importantly, Tiggers Lawrence, Summer, Jamie and Callum enjoyed playing together and getting into the 'knockout spirit'.

The orange and black over the knee Tigger socks proved a real hit with Blackpool Hocky Club at the nearby Hockey Festival!

Ros on trampoline

Ros wanted to have a trampoline session after our conference.

Those who attended the conference will know that Ros 'earned' the promised trampolining session we arranged as a thank you. Everyone who attended the conference will have been awestruck with her ability to convey the difficulties, anxieties and perplexities of living with autism in such an intense and vibrant way. She well earned her trampolining session and for attending the session (Coach, spotters, first aider), her enjoyment was infectious.

Support the Tiggers at the Great Manchester Run

Sue Millichap will be running for the Tiggers in the Great Manchester Run on 18th May 2008 in memory of dedicated Tiggers volunteer Genevieve Edmonds who tragically died in February. Sue's connection to Genevieve is through Gen's best friend Holly Jennison with Sue wanting to run for a charity that Gen had a connection with as she did such an incredible amount for many Autistic causes and was an Aspergers Syndrome sufferer herself.

If you would like to sponsor Sue and donate to the Tiggers, please go to;

    Cinema Outing Feedback

Another success courtesy of our friends at The Island Cinema in Lytham St Annes. Everyone who came made it to the end of Horton Hears a Who. Tigger volunteer Amelia greeted everyone and kept an eye on one of the exits etc., 9 families (39 folk in total) enjoyed being able to see a movie without the anxiety of being worried about what other members of the audience might be thinking about them.

Feedback showed that apart from one person who wasn't sure, the activity was either enjoyed lots or loads! No one said they wouldn't do the activity again, with two thirds wanting to do it again and they thought the organisation of it was 'super' - well done Jonathan and Amelia.

Comments included " I just liked it", "It was a film I wanted to see" from children whilst parents commented "It was a good choice of film and nice venue, RXXXX really liked the film and enjoys coming to this cinema", "I liked the activity because it was just for Tiggers. If kids made noises, comments there were no strange looks", "We liked is but JXX worried a bit about the film" "Nice film for children" and simply "Great".

Thanks to the Students and winning designer Justyna Korczynska

The students at the East Lancashire Institute of Higher Education at Blackburn College created the new Tiggers logos and we received this thanks from them.

'Our students found this to be a challenging yet fun project and they have enjoyed the opportunity of working with Blackpool Tiggers.

Live briefs such as this give the students a chance to work within constraints to achieve an outcome which is beneficial to them as a portfolio piece which will enhance their employment opportunities”
