PC Sponsor

We have been liaising with PC Steve Hodgkins from the Community Safety Department who negotiated for us to do a partnership involving training and other items, which is now underway. He also arranged for a crime prevention officer to help us survey the new self help resource centre and provide advice and resources to make is safe and secure. Steve was recently awarded second prize in the George Herbert Redman Award, giving him £100 for the charity of his choice, and he has nominated us to recieve the money. Steve is in contact with many groups in Blackpool and it is particularly heartening to be particularly chosen to have his support when he is involved with so many groups.

Partnership Projects Ltd

Partnership Projects, contacted by our new Grant Co-Ordinator, Andrea Radcliffe, have provided a grant for £120. This means we can buy essential fire safety equipment that will allow us to self certify and start opening the offices.

One small step for mankind

On Sunday 1st July 2007, in St Anne's on Sea, two local children with unique genetic conditions undertook a challenging Triathlon to raise money for two local charities.

At 1.30pm, 5 year olds Antonia Kimber and William O'Brien used their specialist trikes to ride from the top of Ashton Gardens, down to the main road and up to St. Anne' s pier. They walked back to the Dalmeny Hotel where the children swam a length of the Hotel's pool with the help of local personal trainer, Jevon Trend, who is currently training for the National Iron-Man Triathlon.

Antonia' s mum, Nikki Kimber explains keeping fit is vitally important for children like Antonia and William because of their conditions but the opportunity to do so is far from straight forward for children with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Both children swim at the Hotels leisure centre and use their specially adapted trikes to get the cardio vascular exercise they need. Antonia is also a member of Blackpool Tiggers, a professional, parent-led trampoline club for children on the autism spectrum.

The children have each received support and equipment from another Blackpool based charity that raises funds by performing Wild West re-enactments using talented actor / volunteers.

Peter Jepson, the secretary for the Culpepper Western Charity Show Team said, "We are motivated to help these children because of the cost of special equipment for parents. Every penny we receive through our performances goes to help a local child".

So far these two little children have had donations and sponsorship exceeding £8000. £6500 alone has been pledged by 2 local benefactors. Their kindness will fund additional 9 - 10 trikes.

Both parents have been astounded by the enormous generosity of the people of Blackpool and the Fylde.
